Breaking News: Former Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha has passed away at Nairobi Hospital.
Prof. George Magoha, who used to be the Education Cabinet Secretary, has died. James Nyamongo, the CEO of Nairobi Hospital, said in a statement that Prof. Magoha passed out at home and was rushed to the A&E at Nairobi Hospital. No amount of help could bring him back to life. "It is with great regret that we announce the sudden and timely death of Prof. George Magoha, EBS, OGW, this evening at The Nairobi Hospital," Nyamongo wrote in an inter-office memo to all admitting staff about Prof. Magoha's death. The former Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, Professor of Surgery, and Consultant Urologist died just a few days after becoming a Professor in the School of Medicine at Maseno University. When he made the announcement, the University's Director, Owen McOnyango, said that he was hopeful that Professor Magoha's appointment to start immediately would help change the department. Ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta chose Prof. Magoha to replace Amb. Amina Mohammed as the Education Cabinet Secretary at the beginning of 2019. Since he got the job, Prof. Magoha has helped put the new Competency Based Curriculum into place. Prof. Magoha was the head of the Kenya National Examination Council from 2016 to 2019 before he was named Education CS. When Kenya Kwanza took over as leader after the August 9 elections, Ezekiel Machogu took over as the new Education CS.
